The Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, celebrated on the Friday following Corpus Christi, honours the deep love and compassion of Jesus Christ for humanity, symbolized by His physical heart. Rooted in Scripture, the Sacred Heart represents Christ’s divine love, His suffering, and the redemption He offers. Devotion to the Sacred Heart emphasizes the heart as a symbol of mercy, compassion, and salvation. The feast encourages reflection on Christ’s love and invites the faithful to deepen their relationship with Him through acts of devotion, prayer, and compassion, recognizing His enduring and unconditional love for all people.
The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has decreed that this is a Holy Day of Solemnity to be observed in Canada.
(*) denotes that The Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus is a moveable observance date, celebrated on the second Friday following The Most Holy Trinity. This date is determined based on Easter Sunday, a moveable feast based on the lunar and solar cycles of the Jewish calendar.
