St. Gregory of Narek (OM)

February 27

Saint Gregory of Narek, born around 950 in Armenia, was a monk, poet, theologian, and doctor of the Church. A member of the Narek Monastery, he devoted his life to prayer, scholarship, and writing. His most famous work, the “Book of Lamentations,” is a profound collection of prayers and hymns that express deep sorrow for sin, longing for God’s mercy, and devotion to the Virgin Mary. His mystical writings and spiritual insights have influenced both Eastern and Western Christian traditions. Gregory was canonized as a saint by the Armenian Apostolic Church and declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope Francis in 2015. His feast day is February 27th.

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has decreed that this is a Holy Day of Memorial (Optional) to be observed in Canada.
