* Corpus Christi (The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ)(S)

June 3, 2021

The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, also known as Corpus Christi, is a feast that celebrates the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. Instituted by Pope Urban IV in 1264, the feast honors the mystery of Christ’s body and blood in the form of bread and wine, as instituted during the Last Supper. It emphasizes the central role of the Eucharist in the life of the Church, drawing the faithful into deeper communion with Christ. The feast is celebrated with processions, hymns, and adoration, fostering a deeper reverence for the sacrament. It is observed on the Thursday or Sunday after Trinity Sunday.

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has decreed that this is a Holy Day of Solemnity to be observed in Canada.

(*) denotes that the Corpus Christi is a moveable observance date. This date is determined based on Easter Sunday, a moveable feast based on the lunar and solar cycles of the Jewish calendar.

Please note that Martyrs’ Shrine will be observing this event on the nearest Sunday.
