Saint Aloysius Gonzaga (1568–1591) was an Italian Jesuit priest known for his deep piety and commitment to serving God. Born into an aristocratic family, he chose to become a Jesuit at a young age, despite his family’s opposition. Aloysius was renowned for his humility, chastity, and dedication to prayer. He devoted himself to helping the sick during a plague in Rome, ultimately contracting the disease and dying at just 23. His short life was marked by extraordinary holiness, and he is the patron saint of young students and those who struggle with purity. His feast day is celebrated on June 21.
The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has decreed that this is a Holy Day of Memorial to be observed in Canada.
