Sts. Peter and Paul, celebrated on June 29, are two of Christianity’s most influential apostles. St. Peter, originally a fisherman, was chosen by Jesus to be the leader of His Church, becoming the first pope. Known for his unwavering faith, Peter ultimately died as a martyr in Rome, crucified upside down. St. Paul, a former persecutor of Christians, converted after a dramatic encounter with Christ on the road to Damascus. He became a tireless missionary, spreading the Gospel throughout the Roman Empire. Both apostles are venerated for their courage, devotion, and pivotal roles in establishing Christianity.
The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has decreed that this is a Holy Day of Solemnity to be observed in Canada.
