St. Thomas, also known as “Doubting Thomas,” was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. He is best known for initially doubting the resurrection of Christ, famously declaring he would not believe until he saw Jesus’ wounds. When Jesus appeared and invited Thomas to touch His wounds, Thomas exclaimed, “My Lord and my God!” This moment of faith is pivotal, highlighting both Thomas’s human doubt and his ultimate belief. After Pentecost, St. Thomas traveled extensively, spreading Christianity to India, where he is said to have martyred for his faith. His feast day is celebrated on July 3.
The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has decreed that this is a Holy Feast Day to be observed in Canada.
