Saint Stanislaus, born around 1030 in Poland, was a bishop of Kraków known for his piety, dedication to justice, and efforts to reform the clergy. He is best remembered for his courageous stance against the immoral actions of King Bolesław II. When the king’s tyranny led to the excommunication of his subjects, Stanislaus openly rebuked him. In response, the king ordered his execution. Stanislaus was killed by the king’s soldiers in 1079 while celebrating Mass. He is regarded as a martyr and a champion of truth and justice. St. Stanislaus is the patron saint of Poland, and his feast day is celebrated on April 11th.
The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has decreed that this is a Holy Day of Memorial (Optional) to be observed in Canada.
