Saint Norbert (c. 1080–1134) was a German priest and the founder of the Premonstratensian order, also known as the Norbertines. After a dramatic conversion experience, he dedicated his life to the service of God, promoting reform within the Church. Norbert emphasized a life of prayer, community, and service, and his order was committed to both monastic life and active ministry, particularly in preaching and education. He played a key role in promoting peace during a turbulent period in German history. Canonized in 1582, his feast day is celebrated on June 6, honouring his dedication to the faith and his lasting legacy.
The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has decreed that this is a Holy Day of Memorial (Optional) to be observed in Canada.
