Saint Anthony of Padua (1195–1231) was a Portuguese Franciscan priest and renowned preacher, known for his deep spirituality, knowledge of Scripture, and powerful sermons. A gifted theologian, he joined the Franciscan Order and became famous for his ability to articulate and defend the faith. Anthony’s ministry focused on evangelizing, especially to the poor and marginalized. He is also known for his work in combating heresy. Saint Anthony was canonized just one year after his death due to his widespread reputation for miracles, particularly his intercession in finding lost items. His feast day, June 13, celebrates his holiness and enduring legacy.
The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has decreed that this is a Holy Day of Memorial to be observed in Canada.
