* The Epiphany of the Lord (S)

January 5, 2029

The Epiphany commemorates the revelation of Jesus Christ as the Son of God to the Gentiles, symbolized by the visit of the Magi (wise men) from the East. They followed a star to find the newborn Jesus and presented gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. This event underscores the universal significance of Christ’s birth, showing that His message is for all nations, not just the Jewish people. In some Christian traditions, Epiphany also marks the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist, further revealing Christ’s divine identity and mission to the world.

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has decreed that this is a Holy Day of Solemnity to be observed in Canada.

(*) denotes that the Epiphany of the Lord is a moveable feast day. This feast is celebrated on January 6, but if that’s not a Sunday, it’s celebrated on the Sunday between January 2 and January 8.
