May 29

The Ascension of the Lord, celebrated 40 days after Easter, commemorates the moment when Jesus ascended into heaven in the presence of His disciples, as described in Acts 1:9-11. This event marks the conclusion of Jesus’ earthly ministry and His return to the Father, signifying His triumph over sin and death. The Ascension also symbolizes the completion of Christ’s mission and the promise of the Holy Spirit to empower His followers. The feast emphasizes hope, as Jesus’ ascension assures believers of His continued presence and the eventual fulfillment of God’s kingdom. It also marks the transition toward Pentecost and the Church’s mission.

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has decreed that this is a Holy Day of Solemnity to be observed in Canada.

(*) denotes that the Ascension is a moveable observance date. This date is determined based on Easter Sunday, a moveable feast based on the lunar and solar cycles of the Jewish calendar.
