Saints Philip and James are two of the twelve apostles of Jesus, celebrated together on May 3. Philip, originally from Bethsaida, is known for bringing Nathanael to Jesus and for his question during the Last Supper about showing the Father. James, son of Alphaeus, is sometimes referred to as “James the Less” to distinguish him from James, son of Zebedee. Though less is known about his life, he is considered a steadfast disciple. Both apostles are honored for their commitment to spreading the Gospel. Their feast day is a reminder of the importance of the apostles in establishing the early Church.

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has decreed that this is a Holy Feast Day to be observed in Canada.
