Sts. Cyril and Methodius (M)

February 14, 2026

Sts. Cyril and Methodius, brothers born in the 9th century in Thessalonica, are known as the “Apostles to the Slavs.” They were missionaries who sought to spread Christianity to the Slavic peoples of Eastern Europe. Cyril, originally named Constantine, invented the Glagolitic alphabet, the first Slavic script, which enabled the translation of the Bible and liturgical texts into the Slavic languages. Together, they established the foundations for Christian worship and culture in the region. Their work laid the foundation for the spread of Eastern Christianity. They were canonized as saints, and their feast day is celebrated on February 14th.

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has decreed that this is a Holy Day of Memorial to be observed in Canada.
