Saint Philip Neri (1515–1595) was an Italian priest and founder of the Congregation of the Oratory, a religious community dedicated to prayer, education, and charitable work. Known for his joyful spirit, humor, and deep spirituality, Philip was a beloved figure in Rome, attracting many followers with his warmth and devotion. He emphasized the importance of personal holiness, spiritual direction, and a lively prayer life. Philip also played a significant role in the Counter-Reformation, guiding many souls through his pastoral care. Canonized in 1622, he is the patron saint of humour, joy, and spiritual renewal, with his feast day celebrated on May 26.

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has decreed that this is a Holy Day of Memorial to be observed in Canada.
