St. Patrick (OM)

March 17, 2028

Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, was born in Britain around 385 AD. At the age of sixteen, he was captured by Irish raiders and taken to Ireland as a slave. After six years, he escaped and returned home, later becoming a Christian missionary. He felt called to return to Ireland to spread Christianity. Patrick is credited with converting many Irish to Christianity and using the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity. He died on March 17, 461 AD, and is remembered for his missionary work and dedication to spreading the faith. His feast day, St. Patrick’s Day, is celebrated on March 17th.

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has decreed that this is a Holy Day of Memorial (Optional) to be observed in Canada.
