St. Francois de Laval (M)

May 6, 2028

Saint François de Laval (1623–1708) was the first bishop of Quebec and a key figure in the early Catholic Church in Canada. Born in France, he was ordained a priest and later appointed to lead the fledgling church in New France (Canada). Known for his deep faith and dedication, he worked tirelessly to evangelize Indigenous peoples and to establish a strong Catholic presence in the region. He founded the Séminaire de Québec, which became a leading educational institution. Canonized in 2014, he is remembered for his pastoral care, humility, and commitment to the growth of the Church in North America.

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has decreed that this is a Holy Day of Memorial to be observed in Canada.
