Saint Cyril of Jerusalem, born around 313 AD, was a bishop and theologian known for his role in defending the faith during the early Christian Church. As bishop of Jerusalem, he played a pivotal role in instructing catechumens, guiding them through the sacraments of baptism and initiation into the Church. His “Catechetical Lectures,” a series of writings, remain important for their deep insights into Christian teachings, particularly on the sacraments and the Holy Trinity. Cyril was exiled multiple times for his defence of the faith, and he died in 386 AD. He was declared a Doctor of the Church, with his feast day on March 18th.
The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has decreed that this is a Holy Day of Memorial (Optional) to be observed in Canada.
