Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
I offer you are heartfelt welcome to Martyrs’ Shrine as we begin a new season! This past autumn and winter has been filled with exciting events including: our continued partnership with Sainte- Marie among the Hurons in First Light, winter school retreats, and Parish Lenten Missions – led by the Jesuit Fathers and staff – and offered to twelve different parishes in the Archdiocese of Toronto. We also continued our regular pastoral labours at St. Francis Xavier Mission – serving the Beausoleil First Nations – St Margaret’s Church, Midland, St. Anne’s Church, Penetanguishene, St. Patrick’s Church, Perkinsfield, St. Florence Church, Tiny, St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic High School, Waypoint Medical Centre, and Base Borden.
Looking ahead to this new season, the Jesuits, staff, and over fifty volunteers, are at the ready to serve you anew, as you come to journey with St. Jean de Brébeuf and his companions into a deeper union with Jesus Christ our Lord. This year, as you share in the spaces of our beautiful Shrine you will notice, that all the masonry work around the site has been restored, and all of the exterior windows of the Shrine Church replaced.
You might also notice that this year, at the back of the Church, there is a very important request for your support in our efforts to replace the aging fire suppression system of the Church of St. Joseph this year! Your generous support is essential to make this project happen. Drop a toonie in the plastic Church, and please pray for our success in protecting our beautiful Shrine.
It is my hope that our grounds inspire in you to enter into a deeper union with our Creator. It is my hope that your pilgrimage to Martyrs’ Shrine, and your prayer-filled conversation with the holy martyrs, offer you inner peace, physical healing, and a deepened faith. And, all of our Fathers pray together, along with the staff, that the graces of the Holy Sacraments you receive here bring you great consolation.
Your servant in Christ,
Fr. Michael Knox, SJ, D.Phil (Oxon)
