“The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the most high will overshadow you... For nothing will be impossible for God.” Mary said: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” -The Gospel of Luke 1: 35, 38, The Fourth Sunday of Advent, 2017 “I offered myself and I said: Make me a man after your own heart... From now on, nothing will separate me from your love.” -The Diary of St. Jean de Brébeuf The cusp of daybreak heralding our feast of the Incarnation calls us at the end of this Advent season to unite our prayer with the Blessed Virgin Mary. Following the example of St. Jean de Brébeuf, we find a joyful opportunity to offer ourselves—wherever life finds us—entirely to God, soon to arrive in the person of Jesus Christ. Just as His Blessed Mother allowed her entire being to be transformed for the glory of God and the good of all mankind, we are invited to return ourselves to the God who gives us all we are so that He may be more abundantly present in His creation. St. Jean de Brébeuf, who joyfully labored for Christ’s harvest without care for earthly reward, pray for us, that imitating your example and—like you—sustained by the love of Our Lady, we may follow her grace-filled footsteps to renew and deepen our commitment to God in this coming Christmas season. Pray that we become better disposed to receive the Holy Spirit, so that all we do may be filled with the joyful presence and self-giving virtue of the Incarnate Word.
