The Martyrs’ Shrine held their Annual General Meeting and Thank You Award Ceremony on Saturday, June 6th. Mass was celebrated in the Filion Centre by Fr. John McCarthy, S.J., who was also the guest speaker for this event. Fr. McCarthy spoke about the importance of Ecology and focused on the Martyrs’ Shrine’s commitment to improving the environment and ecology in their 5 year strategic plan. Everyone present was grateful for Fr. McCarthy’s insight and humorous stories about his life experiences with the natural environment. Fr. McCarthy also made himself available to sign his book entitled “Do Monkey’s go to Heaven?” A special thanks to Fr. McCarthy for his generosity of time to the Martyrs’ Shrine.

category was entitled ‘Outstanding Support’ and it focused on individual and unique actions by those whose support has greatly impacted The Shrine in a special way. Recipients of this award were Grace Kidd, Ken MacDonald and Frank Morneau.

A very special thank you to our friends at Sainte-Marie amoung the Hurons. The staff designed a ‘honourary key’ for the award recipients. The keys were made in the blacksmith shop and although each key was unique, they were all modeled on original 17th century keys excavated at Sainte-Marie from the time of the Jesuit mission, 1639-1649. Thank you to all who attended the 2015 AGM.
